Political Vendetta Is Going On: Neeraj Gaur

CBI raids Chidambaram, Karti residences at more than ten places in Tamil Nadu, besides carrying out over a dozen raids in Delhi, Mumbai and Haryana’s Gurugram. The agency’s move comes a day after it filed an FIR against Karti Chidambaram and Indrani Mukherjea in the case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been probing the involvement of Karti Chidambaram’s company for alleged foreign exchange violations. Reacting to the raids, Chidambaram said he and his son Karti were being targeted to muzzle his voice.

Here are the updates as the events unfold-

11: 20 pm: Earlier in the day reacting to the raids on Chidambaram and his son, the Congress said: “The truth is that revenge has become a DNA of the BJP. Neither Chidambaram nor any Congress leader or any other leader of opposition will be deterred, would be cowed down or would fear the politics of revenge and vendetta.”

10.15 pm: Piyush Goyal takes a jibe at P Chidambaram: Former finance minister’s columns “did not exactly set the Yamuna on fire”, Goyal told reporters and took a dig at Chidambaram, saying that he will be accountable for his “son stroke.”

9.12 pm: “We want to reiterate that neither P Chidambaram, nor any Congress leader or any other leader of opposition, would be deterred or cowed down from fear of the politics of revenge and vendetta,” says Randeep Surjewala.

8.56 pm: Nothing of substance, all charges are completely bogus and I will stand vindicated one day: Karti Chidambaram said outside his office in Chennai.

8.49 pm: “… What is on since morning, that was also discussed,” Mamata said about the raids after meeting Sonia Gandhi here.

8.35 pm: Earlier in the day, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee said: “… some political vendetta is going on…. Whatever is happening today… sometimes with (Samajwadi Party leader) Akhilesh (Yadav), sometimes with (Odisha Chief Minister) Naveen Patnaik, sometimes with Laluji, Chidamabaram, (Delhi Chief Minister Arvind) Kejriwal.”

8.15 pm:  Mamata Banerjee, whose party leaders are facing probe in the alleged Sarada chit fund scam and the alleged Narada bribery scam, targeted the Modi government in a veiled manner, saying, “If you do not like someone, then you send CBI, then put him in jail.”

7.47 pm: “These are investigations based on some prima facie information with which ED or CBI or concerned departments move forward,” says BJP’s Nirmala Sitharaman, adding that if the departments are taking actions based on an information, “I will see it only as that and nothing more”.

7.25 pm: Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee has held a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi about an alleged ‘political vendetta’ going on in the country against opposition parties.
